Tirta Empul Temple

A Sacred Cleansing Experience in Bali

Located in the village of Tampak Siring, just a short drive from Ubud Center, Tirta Empul Temple is one of Bali’s most sacred and spiritually important sites. This centuries-old temple is famous for its holy spring water, where locals and visitors alike come to take part in a traditional cleansing ritual.

Built in 962 A.D., Tirta Empul is dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu god of water, and features stunning Balinese architecture surrounded by lush jungle and flowing streams. The main attraction is the large purification pool, where crystal-clear spring water flows through a series of sculpted fountains.

Visitors are welcome to join the purification ceremony by entering the water, moving from fountain to fountain while offering prayers and washing away negative energy. It’s a peaceful, meaningful experience for those seeking clarity, healing, or a deeper connection with Balinese culture.

⚠️ Important Cultural Note:

In accordance with Balinese Hindu tradition, women who are on their period (menstruating) are not permitted to enter the temple grounds or participate in the purification ritual. This is a long-standing cultural and spiritual rule that should be respected by all visitors.

Whether or not you join the ritual, a visit to Tirta Empul offers a serene and unforgettable glimpse into the spiritual heart of Bali.
