Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple

A Peaceful Spiritual Retreat in Ubud

If you’re looking for a sacred water temple experience without the crowds, Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple is a hidden gem worth visiting. Tucked away in a serene village just north of Ubud, this temple offers a tranquil atmosphere, lush gardens, and the chance to join a traditional Balinese purification ritual—similar to the one at the more famous Tirta Empul Temple.

Built in honor of the Hindu god Vishnu, Gunung Kawi Sebatu is surrounded by crystal-clear spring water, lotus ponds, and ancient shrines. The setting is peaceful and deeply spiritual, making it the perfect place for quiet reflection and connection with nature.

Visitors are welcome to take part in the melukat purification ceremony, where you cleanse your body and mind by bathing under holy fountains. The cultural guidelines and dress code are the same as at Tirta Empul, and respectful behavior is expected during your visit.

🛑 Important Note: In Balinese tradition, women who are menstruating are not allowed to enter temple grounds or take part in purification rituals.

Because it’s less crowded than Tirta Empul, the experience at Gunung Kawi Sebatu often feels more personal and calming. It’s a special place to slow down, feel the energy of the water, and experience an authentic part of Balinese spiritual life.
